WATERLOO - Everett Dean Rowenhorst, 72, of Ashburn, Va., formerly of Waterloo, died Oct. 9, 2014 at Reston Assisted Living Community, Reston, Va.

He was born July 16, 1942, in Sioux City, son of Willis and Clara Rowenhorst. He married Jane Kelvington on Feb. 10, 1968, and they later divorced. He married Florence Khoubiar on Nov. 11, 1994.

Everett graduated from Orange High School in 1960, attended Iowa State University for a year, and graduated from Gates Business College in 1963. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Washington, D.C., and remained there, working 42 years as a systems programmer for the Department of Army, retiring in 2006.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Robin (Rick) Davis of Silver Spring, Md.; two sons, Matthew (Robyn) of Waterloo and Daniel (Staci) of Stafford, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Traci Rowenhorst of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Melina Leisure (Todd) of Leesburg, Va.; 16 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; a brother, Elroy (Colleen) of Waterloo; a niece, Sarah (Michael) Clausman of Austin, Minn.; a nephew, Paul Rowenhorst of St. Louis Park, Minn.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Edward V. Rowenhorst, on Sept. 11, 2001, in the attack on the Pentagon.

Services were Oct. 18 at Colonial Funeral Home, with burial in Union Cemetery, both in Leesburg, Va.

Everett was a devout Christian and a hard worker. He was a gentle person who helped others whenever he could and appreciated the simple things in life. He loved his children and grandchildren very much. When confronted with his Alzheimer's diagnosis some years back he simply said, "I cannot complain. I have had a good life."
