ELK RUN HEIGHTS - M. Dean "Kernal" Clabaugh, 64, of Elk Run Heights, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born Oct. 3, 1950, in Estherville, son of Charles and Silvia Eckholm Clabaugh. He married Kammi Swanson on Oct. 6, 1984, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Kernal graduated from high school in Sherburn, Minn., in 1968. He worked for Aspro in Waterloo for several years and then moved to California where he worked as a mechanic in the oil fields and at Waste Management. He returned to Waterloo and went back to work for Aspro, retiring after 20 years. He was a member of The Goodguys Rod and Custom Association and the NSRA (National Street Rod Association).

Survived by his wife; a son, Jason (Sue) of St. James, Minn.; a daughter, Amy Walters of Fairmont, Minn.; five grandchildren, twins Ashley and Emily, Lacy, Austin and Hayden; and a brother, Vic of Parnell.

Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jamie; and a sister, Laurie.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, with burial in Hudson Cemetery, Hudson. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
