CEDAR FALLS - John Link, 84, of Grinnell, formerly of Holiday Lake and Cedar Falls, died at home on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014.
He was born April 16, 1930 in Dubuque, son of Earl William and Estelle Miller Link. On June 14, 1952, he was united in marriage with Vivian Schoop, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bellevue.
John was raised in Waterloo and was a 1948 graduate of Waterloo West High School. He later attended the University of Dubuque and the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. He owned and operated Hawkeye Body Shop, Cedar Falls, and taught an auto body class at Hawkeye Technical College. After moving to Holiday Lake, he operated Link's Body Shop, Link's Marina and Link Realty. He was a member of the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church, serving as both deacon and elder and was a member of the Poweshiek County Board of Realtors. He was a former semi-pro football player with the Waterloo Wildcats and assistant scoutmaster in Cedar Falls.
Survived by his wife of Grinnell; two sons, Steve (Pat) Link and David (Denise) Link of Brooklyn; five grandchildren, Courtney (Brad) Donohoe, Brandon Link, Troy (Brittany) Link, Trenton Link and Travis Link; two great-grandchildren, Piper and Sloane Donohoe; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister and brother-in-law, June and Robert Smith.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn. A private family burial will be held at a later date in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell.
Memorials may be directed to the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church or St. Francis Manor Foundation for Education in Grinnell.
