Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lincoln Township Cemetery near Voorhies for Lewis L. Mertens, 90, of Lamont, Calif., who died in Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, Calif, at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday of pneumonia. Friends may call at Kearns-Dykeman Chapel from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday. The Rev. Cleli Hickman, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church of Reinbeck will officiate.

He was born in Silver Creek, Neb., on October 2, 1881 the son of Mr. and Mrs. John H.
Mertens. He married Ella Ingols on February 23, 1910. Following her death in 1940 he married Rillie May Smith on September 11, 1946 in Reno, Nev.

Mr. Mertens was employed as an auto mechanic for the Alstadt and Langlas Baking Co. retiring in 1946 when he moved to California.

He is survived by one son, Gerald of Lamont, Calif., three daughters, Mrs. Gwen Lynn of Lamont, Calif., Mrs. Larry Epperson of Alviso, Calif., and Mrs. Edward Farmer of 4302 Lafayette Rd., Evansdale; 10 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first and second wives; one brother and three sisters.
