WATERLOO - William D. Lantz, 78, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at Allen Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born Sept. 3, 1927, in Fowler, Ind., son of Charles Darrell and Bessie Laurabell Minns Lantz. He married Hazel Sanderson on Aug. 13, 1953, in Fayette.

Mr. Lantz worked as a truck driver, retiring in 1985, and had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Timothy of Winter Park, Fla., and James of Waterloo; two daughters, Cheryl (David) Thompson of Waterloo and Carole (Garth) LeFevre of La Porte City; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (LaVonda) of Columbus, Ga.; and a sister, Norma (Harlan) Prestien of Unity, Wis.

Preceded in death by a brother, Richard.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and for an hour before Wednesday at the chapel.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a fund to be established at a later date.
