WATERLOO - M. Kathleen "Kate" Speers, 84, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 1, 1922, in La Crosse, Wis., daughter of Joseph M. and Margaret Kirschbaum Mangner. She married Gerald Speers March 2, 1946, in La Crosse. He died July 9, 1994.

Mrs. Speers worked in the secretarial field in La Crosse and was secretary at Deco Tool Supply in Waterloo. She was a member of Waterloo Elklets, Lady Foresters, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Serra Club and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was in charge of the books for 18 years.

Survived by four daughters, Mary Kaye (Terry) Renner of Palmetto, Fla., Margie A. (John) Gerk of Walnut Creek, Calif., Barbara (Stephen) Knipp of Waterloo and Judy Simmons of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marguerite Kramer of La Crosse and Ann Rank of Minneapolis; a brother, P. Joseph Mangner of Dunnellon, Fla.; and a foster brother, Jack McDonald of Vermont.

Preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and three brothers, J. Ambrose, Thomas and Jerome.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with inurnment in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
