CEDAR FALLS - George Martin Harris, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born Sept. 17, 1927, near Cresco, son of William and Lillian Georgina Phinney Harris. He married Evelyn Juhl on Feb. 1, 1957, in Waverly; she died June 17, 2011.

George served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a tool and die room supervisor at Clay Equipment, retiring in 1991 after 43 years of service. He also was founder and partner of G&G Industries and Raincap Inc. He was a member of St. Patrick Shamrocks, Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), and former member of the Knights of Columbus and Waterloo Elk’s Club.

Survived by a daughter, Deb (Rick) Giarusso of Cedar Falls; a grandson, Ryan Giarusso of Washington, D.C.; exchange student granddaughters, Elita McDonald of Christchurch, New Zealand, and Ana Paula Cunha of Monte Carmelo, Brazil; a brother, Fred (Lucy) Harris of Waterloo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Francis, John and Roger (Angeline); and a sister, Kathryn (Gervase) O’Brien.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
