[Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Wednesday, November 16, 2005]

William C. "Craig" Eastman passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005, at his home in Phoenix, Ariz., after a long battle with cancer.

He was born April 16, 1957, in Waterloo, to William Eastman and Nancy Bender Eastman. He graduated from West High in 1975, where he played football, basketball and tennis. He attended Arizona State University and spent many years in the restaurant and landscaping business in Phoenix and Las Vegas. He married Tina McCracken in 1984 in Phoenix, and they had two sons, William V.B. "Victor" and Brandon. They were later divorced. He married Shannon Monet in 2002 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He was most recently employed at CSN in Phoenix.

Mr. Eastman is remembered by family and friends for his sense of humor, his love of sports and his compassion for others. During the last several months, he was able to visit Niagara Falls, attend West High's 30-year reunion, visit Cleveland to see a Yankees game and travel with lifelong friends to see the Cubs play at Wrigley Field. He kept in touch with countless friends and family members this past year, and even held an Iowa football game party at his home this fall. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous in Phoenix for six years, where he was part of Friday's Family and chairman of Hospitals & Institutions in Phoenix, which brought AA meetings into hospitals and institutions. His Phoenix AA "family" includes a large number of close friends who supported him and visited his home often during his illness. Many old friends from Iowa and Phoenix did the same.

He is survived by his wife, Shannon, of Phoenix; two sons, Victor (Karalena) Eastman of Las Vegas and Brandon Eastman of Phoenix; three stepchildren, Michael Runyon, Johnathan Runyon and Jessica Runyon, all of Phoenix; his parents, Bill and Karen Eastman of Chandler, Ariz., and Harry and Nancy Olson of Denver; his grandfather, Ben Eastman of Cedar Falls; three sisters, Susan (Rick) Morkel of Waterloo, Amy (Dave) Abraham of Chandler, Ariz., and Jody Eastman of Chicago; a brother, Mark (Kim) Eastman of Brecksville, Ohio; three stepbrothers, Greg Anderson of Phoenix, Wade Olson and Leigh (Rhonda) Olson, both of Dunkerton; a stepsister, Julie (Mark) O'Brien of New Richland, Minn.; and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. His son, Victor, and his wife, Karalena, are expecting a boy in December, who will be named after Mr. Eastman.

Memorial services will be held at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S. Dobson Road, Mesa, Ariz., at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19. Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society or any Hospice of your choice.
