Joseph L. Reaney, bookkeeper at Herrick Refrigerator & Cold Storage Co., for more than 32 years, died Thursday at 7:15 p.m. in his home, 911 West Seventh Street, from a heart ailment and complications incident to advanced age. He was 75 years old, and bedfast one week.

Mr. Reaney came here 34 years ago and retired recently because of ill health. During the past year he raised a half-acre victory garden at the home of a daughter, Mrs. George V. Loonan, Hudson, IA. Fishing was his hobby and he was an ardent basketball and football fan.

Born Aug 10, 1867, in Chester, Pa., he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Reaney. He married Lottie Caroline Northey, Sept. 1, 1897, at Spirit Lake, Ia.

Before coming to Waterloo Mr. Reaney was a bookkeeper in the City Lumber Yard, Muscatine, Ia. He attended Elliott Business College, Burlington, Ia. He was a member of First Methodist Church.

Surviving besides the widow are one son, William Robert Reaney, Tulare, Cal., who left there Wednesday morning for Waterloo; three daughters, Edith E. Reaney, vocal music instructor in the public schools at Lime Springs, Ia.; L. Marie (Mrs. Roger) Colthurst, Ainsworth, Ia., and Elizabeth (Mrs. George) Loonan; one sister, Mrs. M. L. Blankenhorn, Letts, Ia., and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at O'Keefe & Towne Chapel by Dr. Frank W. Court, pastor of Linden Methodist Church, and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
