Larry Dean Bruhn, 60, of New Hartford, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, of complications from a pulmonary embolism.
He was born June 15, 1945, in Cedar Falls, son of Ernest and Thelma Petersen Bruhn. He married Carol Luitjens May 15, 1965, at Dike United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death July 7, 1999.
He graduated from Dike High School in 1963 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He farmed for 20 years and was a gas service technician for 36 years, retiring May 1, 2004. Larry was a very active member of Fredsville Lutheran Church.
Survived by a son, David (Katie Jo) of Ely; two daughters, Laura (Byron) Dove of Dike and Jennifer (Jeremiah) Lehr of New Hartford; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Ashtyn and Carlee Dove, Brandon and Kevin Bruhn, and Taylor, Haley and Chase Lehr; a brother, Jim (Donna) of Dike; a sister, Jane (Chuck) Christensen of Dike; three stepsisters, Dixie Maas of Walker, Barb (Vernon) Lovell of Cedar Falls and Pat (Craig) Lovell of Allen, Texas; and a stepbrother, Jerry (Lavelle) Fisher of Moville.
Preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his stepmother, Elsie Fisher Bruhn; a grandson, Brady Dove; and a sister, Sally Kay Bruhn.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Fredsville Lutheran Church, with burial in Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery, both in rural Dike. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the "Reach for the Day Neuroblastoma Fund."
