GILBERTVILLE - Francis M. "Fritz" Etringer, 79, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Gilbertville, died Monday, Sept. 26, after a çlengthy illness.

He was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Gilbertville, son of Frank and Anna Etringer. He married Phyllis Bruening on Aug. 6, 1953.

Mr. Etringer worked as an alcohol and drug rehabilitation specialist at the Omaha Veterans Administration Medical Center for 25 years from 1975 to 2000.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tim of Castle Rock, Colo., and Randy (Cressie) of Olive Branch, Miss.; four daughters, Joan (Pat) Davis Norfolk, Neb., Michele (Eric) Kennedy of Gretna, Neb., and Nancy (Mark) Babe and Kristen (Todd) Sortino, both of Omaha; 13 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; five sisters, Marie Schuman and Marcella Dunwald, both of Waterloo, Sister Francanne Etringer SSND of New Orleans, Theresa Vieth of Jesup and Collette Rottinghaus of Gilbertville.

Preceded in death by a sister, Viola Anderson; and two brothers, Pete and Jerome.

Services: 11:15 a.m. Thursday at St. Cecilia Cathedral, Omaha. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at West Center Chapel, Omaha, with a 6:30 p.m. rosary, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Cecilia Cathedral Grade School.
