CEDAR FALLS - Gene W. Shields, 36, of Cedar Falls, died at home Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005.

He was born Nov. 20, 1968, in Cedar Falls, son of Eugene and Mary D. Heinen Shields. He married Carolyn Pope Oct. 16, 1999, in Waverly; she died Sept. 8, 2001.

Mr. Shields was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve, serving in the infantry. He was employed by Ampride in Cedar Falls in food service.

Survived by his parents, of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Mark of Cedar Falls and Tim (Dawn) of Alburnett; a sister, Theresa (Gary) Randall of Rogers, Ark.; and his fiancee, Nancy Martin of Waterloo.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, with inurnment at a later date. Flag-folding will be done by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 at the church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
