WATERLOO - John "Jack" Schwestka, 69, of Waterloo, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 25, 1936, in Fayette, son of Donald and Dorothy Banning Schwestka. He married Judith "Judy" Roth on Oct. 28, 1961, in Dubuque.

Mr. Schwestka served in the U.S. Navy on board a submarine. He retired in 1991 from John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works after 31 years as an electrical engineer. He was currently property manager for the Big Rock Apartments.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Scot (Kimberly) of Grundy Center and Christopher (Gwen) of Boone; a daughter, Amy (Bob) Frickson of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Ashleigh, Aaron and Ivan Schwestka, and Holly and Bethany Frickson; and two sisters, Claire (Pat) Mastin of Waterloo and Kathy Kitzmann of Phoenix, Ariz.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie and Dean.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial at a later date. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and an hour before services Thursday at the chapel.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Arboretum.
