NEW HARTFORD - Sonja “Kay” Weedman, 67, of New Hartford, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

She was born Aug. 8, 1947, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Harold and Wilma “Kathleen” Harris Kothenbeutel.

Kay graduated from New Hartford High School in 1965 and then from Pitze’s Beauty School. She owned and operated various salons in the metro area, most recently Kay’s Salon.

Survived by a son, Dax (Bobbi) of New Hartford; five grandchildren, Clayton Mapel, Abigail, Walker, Dax and Conner Weedman; her father of Bedford; three brothers, Truman Blake of Palmer, Alaska, Buz Blake of Waterloo and James Kothenbeutel of Bedford; and four sisters, Esther Blake of New Hartford, Pam (Fred) Garbes of Mapleton, Minn., Vicky (Dennis) Emery of Cedar Falls and Cindy Kothenbeutel of Oelwein.

Preceded in death by her mother; a daughter, Kristi Wagner; and three brothers, Carl, Rollie and August Blake.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Hartford United Methodist Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, New Hartford. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
