WATERLOO - Aubrey Duane Herrick, 88, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital.

He was born June 29, 1926, in Cass County, son of Earl and Nellie Wyllie Herrick. He married Margery Jean King on July 2, 1949, at the Methodist Church, Corning.

Aubrey graduated from Shenandoah High School, Shenandoah, in 1944; received his bachelor’s degree in music from Drake University in 1950, and his master's degree in administration from University of Iowa in 1965. He taught music at Norwalk, Gilman, Leon and Clinton; was grade-school principal in Lyndon, Ill.; and was assistant principal at Orange Elementary and taught at Lincoln Elementary, both in Waterloo. He was awarded Waterloo’s Teacher of the Year for 1980-81 and retired from teaching in 1980.

He was a member of Waterloo First United Methodist Church; was a 50-year member of the Masons, Martin Lodge 624, Worthy Patron of Waterloo Eastern Star, director of the El Kahir Shrine Band, and member of High Twelve. He played in the Waterloo Municipal Band and performed with the Waterloo Community Theater, Barber Shop Chorus and Quartet.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Mary Herrick of Urbandale; a brother, Oburn (Marilyn) of Johnston; a brother-in-law, Duane Zuck of Shenandoah.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Pat Zuck.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Waterloo First United Methodist Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Corning. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home, with a 6 p.m. public Masonic service by Martin Lodge 624 AF&AM.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
