John Brauchler, 75, of Grand Junction, Colo., died Friday, Sept. 26, in Loveland, Colo.

John was born Jan. 22, 1939, in Feketic, Yugoslavia, the son of Jakob and Margarete Brauchler. He married Edith Reising in 1958 and they later divorced. He married Debra Van Mill in May of 1990 in Tucson, Ariz. John’s family fled Yugoslavia during World War II in a horse drawn covered wagon, traveling to Germany. They moved to Texas and then to Chicago where John was a police officer for 17 years. John owned a security guard business in Arizona and coached an amateur/pro basketball team for eight years. He was an active member in Youth for Christ for 50 years. John enjoyed playing softball and basketball on church leagues, traveling, spending time with his children and grandchildren, church service and served in leadership Men’s Ministry at several churches.

Survivors include his wife, Debra, of Grand Junction, Colo.; a son, David (Lynn) Brauchler, two daughters, Karen (Mark) Bauman and Janet (Dale) Wilson, nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Elvera (Horst) Becker.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Ronald Brauchler.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with inurnment in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
