Rex A. Carpenter, 75, of 908 W. 3rd St., died of a liver ailment at 9:30 a.m. Wednesda at Allen Memorial Hospital.

He had been ill for one and a half years and a patient at the hosptial since Thursday.

The son of Samuel and Caroline Smith Carpenter, he was born March 6, 1880, at Belle Plaine. He lived in Belle Plaine and Chicago before coming to Waterloo 50 years ago.

He was a jewelry salesman and a member of Waterloo Lodge 105, AF&AM.

Surviving are one brother, Louis G., of 908 W. 3rd. St., and one sister, Mrs. W. H. Gerke of Indianapolis, Ind.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kearns-Dykeman Chapel with the Rev. C. E. Luce, assistant pastor of Grace Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Belle Plaine.
