CEDAR FALLS - John Carl Folkers, 105, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at NewAldaya Lifescapes.

He was born Sept. 17, 1909, in Allison, son of William Folkers and Caroline Schroder Folkers. He first married Elizabeth George; she preceded him in death in 1980. He then married Evelyn Pierce on May 23, 1986, at a Methodist Church in Waterloo.

Earlier in life he worked on a farm in Freepoint, Ill., rebuilt farm buildings for Traveler’s insurance companies in Illinois and Iowa, and later worked at Ransom-Miller Grocery in Allison. John then began working at John Deere as a steelworker for 29 years before retiring in 1972. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran American Church since 1945 and also of the Sports of Sorts (S.O.S) club.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Larry (Vicki) of Luana and Richard (Nora) of Bradenton, Fla; two grandchildren, Deron (Adelyne) Folkers of Seminole, Fla., and Brandon (Christa) Folkers of Bradenton; four great-grandchildren, Bryce, Taylor, Brody and Brianna.

Preceded in death by his parents; twin daughters, Nola and Carla; and a sister, Flossie DeBower.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity American Lutheran Church, Waterloo, preceded by an hour of visitation, with private burial following the luncheon. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, An Overton Family Service, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Christian Crusaders and the church.

John's hobbies after retirement included fishing, hunting and woodworking.
