LA PORTE CITY - Mabel L. Geltz, 90, of La Porte City, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

She was born April 27, 1917, in rural La Porte City, daughter of Henry G. and Ella Klink Stirm. She married Earl Geltz on Aug. 4, 1952. He preceded her in death.

She grew up on a farm south of La Porte City, and later her family moved to a farm in the Shady Grove area. Mrs. Geltz and her husband farmed many years near Brandon. She had been a school teacher for 45 years, many of those years in the rural Brandon area and the town school. The couple later moved to La Porte City where she taught the last 16 years, retiring in 1982.

She loved teaching and enjoyed meeting with her former school children. Her hobbies were arts and crafts.

Survived by a sister, Dorothy (Don) Boldt of La Porte City; two brothers, Marlin Stirm of Ankeny and Walter (Kathryn) Stirm of West Lafayette, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Doreen Stirm of Independence; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Ralph and Clyde Stirm; and a stepdaughter, Berniece Adams.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Brandon Church of Christ, with burial in the Brandon Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the La Porte City Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
