Dennis Patrick Allen, 55, of Oelwein, and formerly of Belmont, Calif., died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at Mercy Hospital, Oelwein, following a long illness.

He was born Oct. 24, 1950, in Waterloo, son of Philip Royal and Helen Margaret Stence Allen.

He graduated from St. Francis De Sales High School, Ossian, in 1969, and later from Rochester (Minn.) Junior College with a degree in marketing.

Mr. Allen worked in California at several Silicon Valley companies, including Syntex Labs, Netscape and Gilead Sciences, retiring in 2004.

Survived by a sister, Mary Kay (Bill) Judd of Oelwein; and two brothers, Douglas (Karen) of Marshalltown and David (Jolene) of LaGrange, Ga.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Private family services will take place at a later date. His body has been cremated. Fjelstul Funeral Home, Decorah, is in charge of arrangements.
