WATERLOO - James Gerald Showalter, 72, of Waterloo, died at home Tuesday, May 10, 2006, of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 6, 1934, in Elma, son of Harold and Bernice Riley Showalter. He married Carol Rosonke on Sept. 11, 1954, in Elma.

Mr. Showalter served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. He worked at Sears in Waterloo, retiring after many years of service. He also drove limos for Red's Limo in Waterloo. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, AMVETS and the American Legion.

Survivor include his wife; three sons, Randy and Andrew, both of Waterloo, and Mark of Cedar Falls; four daughters, Mary Jo Showalter (John Cavanaugh) of Rochester, Mich., Cyndi Showalter of Cedar Rapids, Karen (Mark) George of Visalia, Calif., and Linda (Dan) Summerhays of Waterloo; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his mother of Elma; a brother, Mike (Annmarie) Showalter of Milton, Vt.; and a sister, Marie (Neal) Jones of New Hampton.

Preceded in death by his father; and a daughter, Sandra June.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Public visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
