WATERLOO - William Eugene Craig, 81, of Friendship Village-Lakeview Landing, died there Sunday, May 7, 2006, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

He was born May 29, 1924, in Monmouth, Ill., son of William and Beulah Green Craig. He married Mildred Spurlock on July 24, 1944, in Waterloo. She died Feb. 3, 2006.

Mr. Craig was a 1948 graduate of Iowa State Teachers College and was a high school teacher in Manchester. He was employed as an accountant, then in sales, becoming a zone engineer for Phillips. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was wounded during the Battle of The Bulge. He was a charter member of Knights of Columbus and a member of the American Legion and St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Survivors include a son, Bill of Iowa City; a daughter, Michall "Mickey" (Terry) McGrane of Denver; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; five brothers, Dick (Fran) of Cleveland, Ohio, Roger (Evelyn) and Ed (Judy), both of Waterloo, Jim (Grace) of Gulfport, Miss., and Pat (Sherry) of Cedar Falls; and six sisters, Marie Schlorff of Waterloo, JoAnn (Garth) Rathjen of Mason City, Florence (Lee) Gaffney of Sumner, Monica (Dean) Cashman of Des Moines, Charlene (Perry) Dahlin of Isanti, Minn., and Kathleen (Steve) Jensen of Wisconsin.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Tom; and a granddaughter, Mary Anne McGrane.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Friendship Village-Lakeview Landing or the church.

William loved golfing and also enjoyed fishing and bowling.
