WATERLOO - Philip "Lee" McCombs Sr., 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, May 11, 2009, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls.

He was born Jan. 3, 1920, in Beacon, son of John and Grace Musgrove McCombs. He married Betty Jean Pichelmann on Feb. 10, 1940, in Waterloo.

Mr. McCombs worked as a shop superintendent at Cedar Valley Corp. for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during World War II, and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Kay (Rex) Streblow of Waterloo and Julia (Ken) Benda of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Kenneth (Norma) and Philip L. Jr. (Carol), both of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Sally Gilifillan of Evansdale.

Preceded in death by two grandsons; a great-grandson; two sisters, Juanita Wagner and Irene Klein; and a brother, Junior.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full graveside military honors accorded by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
