Marshall D. Abbe, 76, of Waterloo, IA, died Tuesday, July 12, 2004 at Allen Memorial Hospital.

He was born on February 8, 1928, the son of Mark and Lola (Purdon) Abbe. He graduated from East High School in Waterloo.

Mr. Abbe married Wanda A. Stoner on April 15, 1955 in Waterloo, IA. He served in the U.S. Navy for nine years. Marshall and his wife were in the restaurant business in Waterloo for over fifty years, including the Klondike Restaurant, the Purple Parrott, the Colony Club which was in the Abbe family for over fifty years, and he was part owner of the Red Carpet Dinner Club. He was also past president of the Iowa Restaurant Association, a member of Rabbits, the Elks Club, Amvets, Eagles, and Black Hawk County Landlords Association.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Marshall Abbe Jr. of Waterloo, and Ron Johnson and his wife Kay, of Ft. Myers, FL; daughter, Lisa Abbe of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Marshall D. Abbe III, Jordan Abbe, Rex Connor, Bailey Abbe, Daniel Johnson, and Anna Beth Johnson; great aunt, Opal Abbe of Waterloo, IA.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eileen Conrad; and brothers, Vigil and Leonard.
