Services for Emil A. Steffen, 76, of 229 Prospect Blvd., will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Memories West, with private burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Mr. Steffen died at Schoitz Memorial Hospital at 10:05 p.m. Saturday of complications of a heart disease.

He was born Jan. 2, 1899, in New Vienna, son of Herman and Katharine Hess Steffen. He married Margaret Waghorn March 11, 1950, in Waterloo.

He was chief of detectives for the Waterloo Police Department for 43 years, before retiring in 1964. He was a 50-year member of the Elks Club.

Survivors include his wife; four sisters, Mrs. Mathilda Freeman of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Christina Meyers of Dubuque, Mrs. Leonetta Holscher of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Barbara Ament of Dyersville; two brothers, Leo A., of Dyersville, and Joseph A. of Milvern Nursing Home in Waterloo.

Friends who wish may contribute to the Heart Fund in Mr. Steffen's name, and visitation will be at the funeral home until service time.
