Erna R. Christensen, age 96, of Waterloo, passed away August 6, 2004 at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

Mrs. Christensen was born May 31, 1908 in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of Guy C. and Bertha (Koolman) Mills. She married W. Lyle Christensen on June 21, 1933 in Webster City. He preceded her in death October 21, 1988.

She graduated from Webster City High School. After graduating from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, she taught school in Webster City, Iowa. In 1943, she and her family moved to Waterloo. She enjoyed being a homemaker, mother to five sons and loved being involved with her grandchildren. She was an active member of First Congregational Church. She was involved in various organizations, including Navy Mothers, Eastern Star, and King’s Daughters. She gave volunteer time to many charities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Bertha Mills; husband, Lyle; sister, Eva Tormey; brother, Harold; grandson, Dana; and granddaughter, Tammy Mauer.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law:, Ron (Jo Ann), Davenport; Jon (Betty), Des Moines; Tom, Coon Rapids, MN; Don (Susie), Sergeant Bluff; and Lon (Kathy), Rockford, IL; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Erna and her family want to thank the entire staff at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care provided during her time at the center.

Memorials can be made to First Congregational Church or Cedar Valley Hospice, Waterloo.
