Karen Kono, 64, of 140 Prospect Blvd., died Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born March 10, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa, daughter of Carl and Irene O. (Ehrich) Sawyer. She graduated from West High School and worked for 14 years at John Deere in production/parts scheduler. Karen married William Kono and they were later divorced.

Karen was a caring and loving person. She loved animals, had shown horses, cared for greyhounds, and loved her pets.

Survived by her step son Timothy Kono of Waterloo; step daughter Raquel Mann of Osceola, step daughter Michelle Rottinghause of Waterloo, seven step grandchildren, and step sister Patti Galesky of Knoxville, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
