Dorothy J. Miller, 93, of Waterloo, died Friday, December 17, 2004, at Friendship Village.

Dorothy was born October 11, 1911, on her parents farm near Bradford, Iowa - Hamilton Township in Franklin County. She was the daughter of Fred and Gertrude (Cook) Stockdale. Dorothy married Perry K. Miller on June 7, 1941, in Charles City.

She grew up on the farm, graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1930, and from Ellsworth College in 1935. She also attended USC, Upper Iowa University, and University of Northern Iowa. Throughout Dorothy’s teaching career she taught at rural schools in Franklin County, Quasqueton, New Hartford, and at Hudson Community School, before retiring in 1972.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Perry; son P. Lee and his wife Barbara Miller of Waterloo; daughter Meri Kay and her husband Henry Shepard of LaPorte City; five grandchildren, Kathryn (Nathan) Piller, Grant Miller, Tasha (Trevor) Thomson, Seth (Lori) Shepard, and Gabe (Kim Hansen) Shepard; nine great grandchildren, Zachary & Alexander Piller, Elizabeth, Arial, & Joslynn Miller, Anthony Hall, Arabella & Cade Shepard, and Cole Shepard; and her sister Grace Price of Iowa Falls.

Preceded in death by her parents and sister Neva Stockdale.
