Gladys I. Schmadeke, 92, of Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center of Western Home Communities died Sunday, June 1, 2003.

She was born February 9, 1911, son of Robert P. and Ada I. (Mead) Ritzman. She married William J. Schmadeke on July 19, 1928, in Clarksville, Iowa. He died March 13, 1984. She sold Avon Cosmetics during the 1960's. Gladys was a member of the Waterloo First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Paula Glass of Waterloo; three sons: Donald and his wife Jane of Coon Rapids, MN. Robert of Urbandale and Gary and his wife Mary Ann of Casa Grande, AZ; daughter-in-law, Nena Schmadeke of Montezuma; eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, husband; son, Richard, granddaughter, Pamela Weider; two brothers, Jack and Glen Ritzman; four sisters: Mabel Peppler, Marie Wendt, Velma Faye Bents, and Gail Ritzman.
