J. Dale Murphy, age 90,of Erie, Pennsylvania formerly of Waterloo, Iowa. died at Independence Court of Erie, Erie Pennsylvania on Tuesday,May 20, 2003.

He was born February 14, 1913 in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Fred and Abigail Averill Murphy. He married Marie Kuriger July 2, 1932, at the Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Waterloo. She died July 22, 1993. Later Dale married Elizabeth Henninger December 2, 1995 at Bethel Baptist Church, Erie, PA.

He owned and operated Cedar Side Dairy in Waterloo and then owned two restaurants, one of which was"The Chuckwagon" and the other "Hub". Later he worked for Farm Bureau Insurance and was a real estate broker, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, Waterloo and attended Bethel Baptist Church, Erie, PA He was one of the founders of Cedarville Unversity, Cedarville, Ohio and served as chairman on the board of trustees at Cedarville University for over 50 years (Cedarville, Ohio). Also, he was on the Board for Iowa Regular Baptist Camp

Survived by his wife, Elizabeth Murphy, of Erie, PA. Son, James D. And wife Phyllis Murphy of Naples, FL.; a daughter, Marilyn M. and husband Wesley Bentrude of Salt Lake City, UT.; a step daughter, Kay and her husband Thomas Simon of Pittsburgh, PA.; a step son, Robert and wife Elizabeth Henninger of Erie, PA.; three grandchildren, six step grandchildren , six great grandchildren , two step great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife-Marie, two brothers, Forrest Murphy and Parker Murphy; and one sister, Rita Scroggy.
