Death of Peter Petersen

Peter Petersen, a well known and worthy resident of LaPorte, died at his home in the eastern part of town Sunday morning April 21st, after a short illness with pneumonia.

Deceased was born at Husum Kreitz Schleswig, Germany, April 5th, 1825. Upon reaching his majority he entered the Danish army and served three years. Came to America in 1853 living for a short time in New York City where in 1854 he was married to Miss A.M.Sameir, who survives him. In 1859 he located in Wisconsin where he remained for five years, moving to Benton county, Iowa in 1864 where he lived until his removal to this city about nine years ago. After moving to Iowa he entered the union army and during his service therein his health was so impaired he never entirely recovered. He leaves surviving beside a widow, two sons, Henry Petersen and William Petersen farmers of Benton county, two daughters, Mrs. Thomas, of Benton county and Mrs. Longmar of North Western Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the German Evangelical church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Knolp pastor of the church, and Rev. Swearingen of Mt. Auburn.
