Dr. Borge Jessen, 82, of 420 West Main Street, La Porte City, died June 30, 2004, at La Porte City Nursing & Rehab Center from natural causes.

Borge was born March 5, 1922, in Forum, Denmark, the son of Christian and Marie Olsen Jessen.

He was a graduate of the Royal Veterinary & Agricultural College in Copenhagen in 1948. He spent 1949 and 1950 in a small animal clinic in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He then practiced in Denmark for one year and moved in 1951 to the United States and practiced in La Porte City until May 2003.

Borge married Babs E. Andersen on October 16, 1953, at American Lutheran Church in La Porte City.

Borge was a member of the La Porte City American Legion and Chamber of Commerce; Iowa Veterinary Medical Association; and the Iowa Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

Survivors include his wife, Babs, of La Porte City, one sister, Kirsten Steriopolos of England; and two brothers, Jens and Hans, both of Denmark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Claus P. on May 14, 1977 and Casper O. on December 12, 1988; one sister, Kathrine Nielsen and three brothers, Olrik, Henry and Johannes.

Memorial services were held July 6, 2004, at American Lutheran Church with inurnment in West View Cemetary, both of La Porte City, Iowa.
