WATERLOO - Matthew Alan Theiss, 51, of South Padre Island, Texas, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at Valley Baptist Medical Center, Harlingen, Texas, after a 20-month battle with cancer.

He was born May 21, 1963. in Denver, Colo., son of S.E. and Barbara (Hanson) Theiss.

Matt built a real estate appraisal business, serving the South Padre Island and Valley areas.

Survived by his daughter, Melody Caroline; a brother, Scott Lindeman of Dysart; four sisters, Sue (Rick) Heth of Elk Run Heights, JoLynn (Jeryl) Ashe of Dallas, Texas, Jill (Mike) Cleveland of Roswell, N.M., and Carole Theiss; and his longtime girlfriend, Theresa Rudolph of South Padre Island.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Musical memorial will be held Sunday, Sept. 28, from 3 to 6 pm. at Parrot Eyes on South Padre Island, with a private family burial at a later date.

Matt was a musician to the core and loved to entertain locals and tourists alike with his 12-string guitar, keyboard and vocals. He played for many years in venues on the island both solo and as half of "The Beach Bums" with band partner, Alan Stewart.
