LA PORTE CITY - Mildred J. “Millie” Webber, 82, of Independence, formerly of La Porte City, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

She was born Oct. 16, 1931, in New Hampton, daughter of Victor and Rose Gebel Schwickerath. She married Robert “Bob” Webber on April 12, 1950, in Alta Vista; he died Oct. 28, 2009.

Millie was a graduate of North Washington High School and had worked as a custodian for La Porte City High School for 25 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Circle and was a former hospital volunteer at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, for many years.

Survived by a son, Tim (Deanna) of Iowa City; three daughters, Deb (Lonnie) Phillips of Muscatine, Patty Keegan of Davenport and Mary Beth (Brian) Brinkema of Independence; a daughter-in-law, Ann Webber of Urbandale; six grandchildren, Jeff (Teresa) Phillips, Mitch (Kya) Keegan, Kendall (Keegan Payne) Keegan, Cassie and Emma Webber and Blake Brinkema; three great-granddaughters, Brynnley, Brielle and Brecklyn Keegan; a brother, Clair (Tina) Schwickerath of Maryland; two sisters, Arlene Heying of New Hampton and Doris (Sylvester) Mrachek of Cresco; and a sister-in law, Marlene Schwickerath of Charles City.

Preceded in death by her parents; two children, Steve and Rebecca; two brothers, Earl and LaVern Schwickerath; and a sister, Ellen Wiest.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at La Porte City Funeral Home, with a 4 p.m. rosary service. Visitation also an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Union Community School District or the family.
