WATERLOO - Janan O'Keefe Swanson, 79, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., formerly of Waterloo, died on Sept. 3, 2014, in Thousand Oaks, Calif., after a year-long battle with cancer.

She was born on Oct. 30, 1934, in Waterloo, daughter of Dr. Paul T. and Marian (Brouillard) O'Keefe. She married David J. Sabag. They later divorced. She then married John N. Swanson.

Janan attended West High School in Waterloo and graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in nutrition and dietetics. She completed her dietary internship at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She was the assistant dietitian at several hospitals in Iowa and Orange County, California. When Los Robles Regional Medical Center opened in Thousand Oaks in 1968, she was the head dietitian until her retirement in 1982.

Survived by her husband; three daughters, Patricia, Laura and Cheryl; three sons, Jeff, Richard and Randy; a sister, Patricia Fenno; a niece, Sharon; a nephew, Stephen; six grandchildren, Janie, Kellie, Lillian, Paul, Joshua, and Michelle; and Pancake, the cat.

Services: Friday, Sept. 26, at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church in Thousand Oaks.

The couple traveled in their RV about nine months a year after John's retirement in 1993 and happily toured the U.S, Canada, and Mexico. Janan also avidly pursued her hobbies of genealogy, quilting, and playing bridge.
