WATERLOO - James Gerald Heichel, 72, of Waterloo, died at home Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014.

He was born Nov. 10, 1941, in Cedar Falls, son of Russell C. and Inez Evelyn Steffler Heichel. He married Amy Kass on May 5, 2010, in Tama.

James served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hancock (CVA-19) and was an auto mechanic for many years. He owned and operated Jim’s Mobile Auto Service.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Carolyn (Steven) Zeller of Topeka, Kan., Lucy (Jerald) Baylis of Portland, Ore., and Erin (Jesse) Hill of Plainfield; two sons, Russell C. of Traer and James II of Kansas City, Kan.; nine grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Marilyn) of Oregon City, Ore.; and four sisters, Jo (Larry) Haverkamp of Oregon City, Patty Johnson of Mission, Texas, Joann Wilson of Cedar Falls and Virginia Poock of Ohio.

Preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Hannah Lynn Heichel; and a brother, Duane Russell.

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hudson Cemetery, Hudson, where military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post No. 49. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, is assisting the family.
