WATERLOO - Bob A. Sheldon, 72, of Waterloo, died Monday, June 30, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born June 29, 1936, in Alpha, son of Lyle and Edna Matlock Sheldon. He married Donna Cerwinske on Feb. 4, 1961, in Waterloo.

He graduated from East High School in 1954 and attended the University of Northern Iowa. Mr. Sheldon worked for State Farm Insurance for 40 years, owning the Sheldon Agency until retiring in April.

He was a longtime member of the YMCA and served on the board of directors and as chairman of the physical committee. He was active with softball in the area and played on numerous fast-pitch and slow-pitch state championship teams. He served on the Waterloo Softball Association Board of Directors and had been president of the board. He was elected to the Iowa Fast Pitch Hall of Fame. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and had served as a deacon.

Survived by his wife; a son, Brian (Victoria) of Shawnee, Kan.; a daughter, Tamara (Eric) Marx of Algonquin, Ill.; five grandchildren, Courtney, Jake and Audrey Sheldon and Hailey and Logan Marx; and a brother, Raymond of Sacramento, Calif.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Westminster Presbyterian Church.
