WATERLOO - Virgene Ilene Paulsen, 80, of Rock Island, Ill., formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at UnityPoint-Trinity West in Rock Island.

She was born Sept. 13, 1933, in Waterloo, daughter of Earl and Gleo Mae Ham Erbe. She married Herbert Klint Paulsen on Aug. 22, 1953, in Waterloo.

She worked at the Montessori School in Moline, Ill., for 11 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of First Covenant Church, Moline.

Survived by her husband; two daughters Kathryn Potts of Bettendorf and Rhonda Paulsen of Holly Springs, N.C.; a son, David of Moline; a sister, Earlene Hein of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Jessica (Scott) Williamsen, Justin (Mandy) Potts, Molly Ren and Jack Ren; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Addison Potts.

Services were Aug. 25 at First Covenant Church in Moline, with burial in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers may be directed to St. Anthony’s Continuing Care Center or the Alzheimer's Association.

Virgene was a librarian and found great joy in reading stories to children. She enjoyed all music and sang for many years with the Sweet Adelines.
