WATERLOO - Herbert Willard Lentsch, 88, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at Rosewood Estates.

He was born Nov. 9, 1925, in Havana, N.D., son of John A. and Clara Janisch Lentsch. He married Mae Beran on Sept. 18, 1948, at St. Otto Catholic Church, Webster, S.D.

Herb was a machinist with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 32 years, retiring in 1983. He spent his retirement building and remodeling homes for himself and his family.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Dr. Ron (Shari) Lentsch of Overland Park, Kan., and John (Marie) Lentsch of Waterloo; a daughter, Michele Smith of Cedar Falls; three grandsons, Jason (Stephanie) Lentsch of Prosper, Texas, Ryan Lentsch of Aiken, S.C., and Chad Smith of Houston; two granddaughters, Tiffany (Phil) Tentinger of Cedar Falls and Nicole Maelyn Lentsch of Overland Park; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Peter (Loretta) of Brownton, Minn., John (Janet) of Veblen, S.D., and Al (Sharen) of Goffstown, N.H.; six sisters, Philomena Dolney of Roslyn, S.D., Mary (Harold) Fleming of Grand Haven, Mich., Margaret (Ron) Reid of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., Ann (Rudy) Ettlin of Webster, Minn., Victoria Scheetz of Avondale, Ariz., and Julie (David) Olson of Stillwater, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Albert Kadrlik of Lonsdale, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Agnes Kadrlik and Dorothy Rumpza; two brothers, F. J. “Ole” and a brother in infancy; two brothers-in-law, Andrew Dolney and Leonard Rumpza; a son-in-law, Delbert Larry Smith; a granddaughter, Traci Lynn; and two sisters-in-law, June Lentsch and Karen Lentsch.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, with entombment in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary.

Memorials may be directed to St. Edward’s Catholic Church or UnityPoint Hospice.
