CEDAR FALLS - Virginia M. Shreve, 84, of the Western Home Communities, died there Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008.

She was born June 28, 1924, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Earl Spencer and Viola Marie Nielsen Syndergaard. She married Marvin Shreve in 1949, and they later divorced.

Mrs. Shreve graduated from Iowa State Teachers College High School and attended Gates Business College. She worked at Viking Pump Co., the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home and, until her retirement in 1986, was employed at the Western Home Communities.

Survived by a daughter, Charmaine (Jesus) Dapena of Bloomington, Ind.; a son, Martin Jerome "Jerry" of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a granddaughter, Kara Marie Dapena of Bloomington; and a sister-in-law, Patty Syndergaard of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a brother, Roger Syndergaard.

Services: 2 p.m. today at the Cedar Falls Mennonite Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services today at the church. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
