CEDAR FALLS - Elsie Minnie Lubbering died Friday, August 1, 2008, at the Western Home Martin Center, of natural causes.

She was born on May 10, 1918, in Hillside, Illinois, to Diedrich and Catherine Paulmeyer Lubbering.

She attended Zion Lutheran School in Hinsdale, Illinois, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hinsdale until she moved with her sister Lydia to Cedar Falls in July 2001, to be closer to her family.

Elsie was a housekeeper, factory worker and dry cleaning store clerk. She also helped to care for her aunt, uncles and sister for many years.

Elsie was a kind, tenderhearted person who generously supported Lutheran charities and her church throughout her life. She enjoyed dogs, cats, nice clothing, bowling, baseball, good food and her family and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lillian Visockis, Edna Johnson and Lydia Peterson; and a brother, Walter.

Survived by her nephews, Gerald L. (Elizabeth) Peterson of Cedar Falls and David L. (Linda) Peterson of Sedro-Woolley, Washington; her great-nieces, Julie Qidwai of Coralville, Amy Zimmerman of Davenport and Christina Greenberg of Bellingham, Washington; and a great-great-niece, Amira Qidwai.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date at the burial site in Zion Cemetery, Hinsdale, Illinois. Richardson Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cedar Bend Humane Society or the Salvation Army.
