CEDAR FALLS - Dr. Nellie D. Hampton, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 22, 1916, in Standard, La., daughter of Edward L. and Lizzie T. Prince Hampton Sr.

Dr. Hampton received an associate's degree from Jefferson City Junior College in 1936, a bachelor's degree in education from Central Missouri State Teachers College in 1942, a master's degree from the University of Iowa in 1945, and a doctoral degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1951. She was employed with the University of Northern Iowa for 36 years, beginning as an instructor in 1945 and retiring as a professor of education in 1981, the last 11 years in the Department of Curriculum of Instruction.

Survived by a brother, Ed (Doris) Hampton Jr. of Columbia, Mo.; a nephew, Edward Lee (Barbara) Hampton III of Seattle; a niece, Mary Ellen Flowers of Columbia, Mo.; two great-nephews; a great-niece; and friends, Rita Leslie, and Jean and Lyle Harms, all of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Marjorie Tegarden.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
