CEDAR FALLS - James C. Stewart, 86, of Friendship Village, Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of 2129 California St., Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Friday at Covenant Medical Center, in Waterloo.

Mr. Stewart was born March 18, 1921, in Waterloo, the son of Fred E. and Edna (Connor) Stewart. He graduated from West High school in 1939 and then attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) before transferring to, and graduating from, the University of Iowa in 1943. He later attended and graduated from Gates Business School in Waterloo, IA.

He was united in marriage to Shirley L. Cleveland on June 16, 1944, at the Cedar Falls Women's Club. Mr. Stewart was employed as a cost accountant with the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for over 41 years, retiring in 1984. He was past member of Cedar Falls Rotary Club; was past scout leader with Troupe #55 of the Boy Scouts of America Winnebago Council; past president of John Deere Credit Union; and was an active life-long member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo.

Surviving Mr. Stewart are his wife of Waterloo; daughter Marilyn J. (John) Penne of New Bern, N.C; two sons, John D. (Deborah) Stewart of Waterloo and Roger K. (Linda) Stewart of Des Moines, IA; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren also survive.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, all in Waterloo. Friends may call at the Richardson Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, on Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m. and may call also Wednesday for one hour prior to service time at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the James C. Stewart Memorial at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
