CEDAR FALLS- Vernon A. Nicholson, 86, of Cedar Falls died Feb. 4, 2008, at the Western Home Communities.

He was born June 21, 1921, in Waterloo, son of Harry and Olive (Paton) Nicholson. He married Marie Carolus on June 6, 1947. She died Sept. 22, 1999.

Mr. Nicholson served in the United States Army 101st Airborne during World War II. He was employed as a waste water operator with the city of Cedar Falls, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include his daughter, Meta (Don Sr.) Delamore of Cedar Falls; a grandson, Don Delamore, Jr. of Waterloo; a granddaughter, Denise (Travis Yeggy) Delamore of Denver, CO.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother in infancy.

Family directed memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Western Home Chapel, with inurnment taking place in Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford at a later date. There will be no public visitation. Mr. Nicholson deeded his body to the University of Iowa. Richardson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to donor's choice.
