Chief Warrant Officer 4, Michael Francis Sharp, U.S. Army Retired, passed away peacefully at his home in Pembroke, Ga., on Aug. 11, 2014, after a short battle with cancer. Mike was 66 years old, born July 13, 1948, in Waterloo, to the late Roger Sharp and Leila (Lea) Sharp, who survives him.

Mike was an Army Aviator, helicopter pilot and instructor, and his career included a tour in Korea, as well as a combat tour in Vietnam, flying the UH-1 Huey and AH-1 Cobra helicopters. He retired after 20 years of dedicated military service as a highly decorated Warrant Officer. Upon his retirement from the military, Mike continued his aviation career as a helicopter pilot for Lifestar Air Transport in Savannah, Ga., and was credited with transporting over 4,000 patients in his 25-year career with Lifestar.

Mike is survived by his wife, Karen Sharp; his beloved sons, Aaron and Catherine (wife of Aaron) Sharp and Brent Sharp of Savannah; his sister, Kathie Sharp Sage of Waterloo; grandchildren Samantha, Alexandria, Elijah and Delilah Sharp (Aaron’s children); and five stepchildren and three stepgrandchildren. Also survived by his ex-wife of 34 years, Geri Arnold Gann Sharp.

Mike was well known, loved and respected by all. He will be always remembered as a master craftsman, aviator, father, family man, and friend who loved life to the fullest and gave selflessly. A memorial and celebration of life service was held on Aug. 14 in Pembroke.
