WATERLOO - LaVern J. Rindels, 91, of Waterloo, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital.

He was born Oct. 19, 1922, in Wellsburg, son of Jacob and Anna Mollendorf Rindels. He married Wynona Shaffer on Jan. 15, 1946, in Minneapolis; she preceded him in death.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, LaVerne was a delivery truck driver until retirement.

Survived by a son, Dan (Betty) of Waterloo; two daughters, Diane Espinoza of Waterloo and Lorie Sharar of Traer; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lee (Georgia) of Waterloo; and a sister, Helen Danner of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; a great-grandchild, three brothers; and three sisters.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Prairie Lakes Church, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls.
