WATERLOO - Carold C. “Charlie” Baker, 88, of Waterloo, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at the Affinity House.

He was born Oct. 19, 1925, in rural Clear Lake, son of Arnold William and Mary Elizabeth Schulz Baker. He married Margie Noe on June 1, 1947, in Northwood, and they later divorced.

Charlie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was a route delivery salesman with Wonder Bread for over 28 years, retiring in 1984.

Survived by his longtime companion, Corine Herman of Waterloo; two daughters, Linda Oltrogge of Reinbeck and Debbie Wymore of Cedar Falls; three sons, Kenneth of Waterloo, Larry (Patti) of Altoona and Danny of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren; and six great-grandsons.

Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy; two grandchildren, Jamie Huntley and Dusty Baker; a brother, Durwood; a sister, Marvyl Tanner; and two sons-in-law, Rollie Oltrogge and Kevin Wymore.

Services: 4 p.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Service, where visitation begins at 2 p.m. Military Honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 Honor Guard.

Memorials may be directed to the family or UnityPoint Hospice Waterloo.

Following his Navy duty, Charlie was recruited by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1946 as a pitcher, attending spring training camp. He was an avid trout fisherman enjoying the trout streams of Northeast Iowa. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan and enjoyed all things Iowa Hawkeyes.
