CEDAR FALLS - Joseph Clay Craig, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Jan. 2, 2010, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home of complications from Alzheimer's disease.

He was born March 14, 1924, in Sioux City, son of Lawrence and Mary Beymer Craig. He married Marvyl Christiansen on Dec. 20, 1947, at First Baptist Church, Cedar Falls. She died in 2003. He later married Darlene Ottens.

He graduated from school in Salix in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received his bachelor's degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1949 and taught band and business at various schools in Iowa and Illinois. He later became a spring inspector for Woodward Governor, Rockford, Ill., retiring from there in 1989.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Larry of Grundy Center and the Rev. David (Jacque) of Waterloo; a daughter, Sonja (Larry) Melton of Moline, Ill.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cecile Hoepfner of Cedar Falls.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Reformed Church, Evansdale, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls, at a later date. Public visitation for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
