Peter Lies, 79, a resident of Waterloo for 22 years, died of complications incident to old age at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in his home, 901 Mulberry Street. In poor health for some time, he had been seriously ill for the last week.

He was born Nov. 1, 1865, in Dubuque County, Iowa, a son of Nick and Susan Lies. On August. 5, 1890, he married Kate* Robert. Before coming to Waterloo he farmed near Jesup, Ia. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, three sons, Lawrence and Frank Lies, both at home, and Harry Lies, 421 Cherry Street; a daughter, Mrs. Edwin Robeson, 1115 Mulberry Street; four brothers, Nick Lies, 314 East First Street, Frank Lies, Porterville, Cal., and Mike and John Lies, both of Chicago; 11 grandchildren, three of whom are in the armed forces, and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with Father M. L. Scallon officiating. Burial will be at Gilbertville, Ia. The body was taken Tuesday afternoon from O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home to the Lies home where St. Joseph's Rosary society will recite a rosary at 7:30 p m. Wednesday, and alumni of Our Lady of Victory Academy, at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
