WATERLOO - Thomas E. Hoppes, 66, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at home of cancer.

He was born Aug. 27, 1942, in Waterloo, son of David E. and Rose McKee Hoppes. He married Mildred "Millie" Williams on Sept. 22, 1996, in Waterloo.

Mr. Hoppes was employed as a dispatcher for Warren Transport for 13 years and as a bartender at the Golden Dolphin for 13 years. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a lifetime member of the VFW.

Survived by his wife; his mother of Waterloo; a daughter, Sherri (Joe) Jares of Texas; two brothers, David Joe (Susanne) of Eagan, Minn., and Timothy Ray (Donnell) of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Rose "Suzie" (David) Cedervall of Gardner, N.Y., and Nancy (Tim) Connor of Noberville, Ind.; and three grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his father; a brother, Danny; a niece, Amy Hoppes; and an aunt and uncle, John and Elsie McKee.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday and for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, Cedar Valley Hospice, the Salvation Army or the family.
